So, it was announced that Paul Rudd would be taking on the role as Ant Man and so far, the masses are split. Some are saying, "It's Paul Rudd..." And the others; "It's Paul Rudd!!!" So who is right? Let's dissect this.
First, let's start off with, who is Ant Man anyway? Well, technically there are 3. ***Disclaimer: The following information was obtained from Wikipedia. I read it and am providing a synopsis.***
First, there is Henry Pym; a biophysicist who discovered a chemical that allowed him to change his size. He would shrink down to the size of a bug and wore a helmet that controlled ants. Hence, the name Ant Man. With his girlfriend, the Wasp, by his side, they were two of the founding members of the Avengers. We also find he is the creator of Ultron, which will be seen in the next Avengers movie. After some things occurring, Pym created other aliases and while he was working on those, Ant Man lied dormant. That's when the next man stepped in.
Next to step into those little shoes was Scott Lang. He took over the job after retiring his life of crime and urge to save his daughter who was ill. He worked with the Fantastic Four, as well as the Avengers. Since I haven't read much on Ant Man, I can't say much more on Scott. Finally, we have Eric O'Grady. He found the suit while working for S.H.I.E.L.D. And when I say working, there is a good chance he was lowest on the totem pole. He was a selfish jackass and in order to get ahead in life, he stole the uniform. He manipulated women and tormented and humiliated people. Look, he was a prick... So, which on are the going to choose? Well, we know the prick is out. That was easy. It is safe to say the IMDB is right and they will start at the very beginning. We need to know how it all began, so the obvious choice would be Henry Pym. Now, down to the casting. Paul Rudd- He's funny, witty, charismatic... All the things we see in Robert Downey Jr. And if you remember, many people were concerned about Downey playing Iron Man. Look how wrong they were. Ant Man is a lot like Iron Man in the sense that they are both intelligent and sarcastic. There is a very good chance that Rudd can pull this off. And most people should not be offended if he doesn't since Ant Man isn't one of their "beloved" characters. Look at Rudd's track record. Even if the movie was a flop, his acting wasn't bad. Anchorman, 40-Year Old Virgin, Clueless, and The Cider House Rules, only to name a few. I don't think it will be difficult for him to fill such small shoes. And besides, Marvel hasn't let us down yet, so I think it is safe to say they know what they're doing. I am sure that in the next few weeks more will be revealed about the plot and cast. But for now, we will just have to catch up on the comics and see where this is all going. I'm sure there's an e-comic for Ant Man, right? If you hear anything new, leave a post. Otherwise, stay tuned for more updates! Cheers- The Fatal Siren
